Ashley Rook, a South Dakota School of Mines and Technology student majoring in chemistry, has been named a Scholar of the American Chemical Society (ACS) Scholars Program. Rook, of Rapid City, is one of approximately 150 Scholars chosen nationwide, and will receive a $1,000 scholarship.
The American Chemical Society, the largest membership organization devoted to the study and advancement of a single science, sponsors the scholarship program for qualified applicants who want to enter the fields of chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering or other chemically related fields such as environmental science, materials science or toxicology.
The goal of the scholarship program is to aid in building an awareness of the value and rewards associated with careers in the chemical sciences and chemical technology by assisting students in acquiring the skills and credentials needed for success in these areas.
