Escott and Howard Win School of Mines Awards

Article Body

The Career Service Council at the School of Mines has given its November and December Traditions of Excellence Awards to Pamela Escott and Rachel Howard respectively. Escott is a purchasing assistant in the Business Services Office, and has been employed at School of Mines since September 2007. Howard is a registration officer in the Graduate Education Office, and has been employed at School of Mines since January 2008.

The Career Service Council gives the award to someone who has performed their assigned duties at a high level or above and beyond expectations, who has taken the initiative to promote the concept of successful job completion and has promoted a positive working relationship with students, faculty and staff.

Escott's nomination stated, "Pam has done an outstanding job of moving into the purchasing assistant position in the Business Services office. She was able to learn the new position while still doing the secretarial duties at the switchboard for several months. Her cheerful demeanor and willingness to help have made her a valuable asset to the office."

Howard's nomination stated, "Rachel has gone above and beyond for my office. One of our students was offered a great job and required to move early between defending his thesis and finishing the revisions. Rachel worked with this student over email to help him navigate all the steps needed in the thesis and graduation process even though he was 1,200 miles away. She has kept in touch with the student every step of the way and personally walked his thesis through the final approval steps. Rachel made sure his thesis got printed on the required format and made sure all the required signatures got placed."
