High school students have the opportunity to learn about engineering and engineering careers at Youth Engineering Adventure (YEA) programs. YEA is hosted by the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in Rapid City from June 22-27, 2008. Students will participate in group and hands-on projects and demonstrations. YEA is intended for high school students, freshman to seniors, interested in math and science. More than 200 students have participated in YEA during the program's first seven years. The program encourages students to have fun while learning about technology and engineering. Students will also tour engineering firms and explore engineering career opportunities.
"We have worked hard to establish a solid program that should benefit all attendees. The School of Mines and South Dakota State work closely so each participant leaves the Youth Engineering Adventure with a good idea of what engineers do and what a career in engineering would be like," coordinator Dr. Larry Simonson of the School of Mines said.
