More than 200 middle and high school girls will participate in Engineering GIRLS (Girls Into Real Learning Succeed) Day at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 15. The day is planned as a series of hands-on activities to show the fun side of science and engineering.
School of Mines faculty and student volunteers will help participants build marshmallow bridges, create jewelry through metallurgical engineering, experience cryogenic chemistry and more.
"We invite all girls to participate and explore the opportunities that exist in the science, math, engineering and technology fields," School of Mines President Dr. Charles Ruch said. "We need the contributions from every segment of our society to achieve our economic and scientific goals as a state and a nation."
