The South Dakota School of Mines and Technology is pleased to welcome Dr. Mano J. Thubrikar as the new director of the biomedical engineering program, newly created graduate program. Dr. Thubrikar brings more than 30 years of cardiovascular research experience to the program. Dr. Thubrikar has a Ph.D. in biomedical engineering from New York University. Previously, he served as a director of Surgical Research at the University of Virginia, the director of the biomedical engineering program at Heineman Medical Research- Carolinas Medical Center, and an adjunct professor at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He was a distinguished research scientist at Edwards Lifesciences in Irvine, California. He is also the author of two books, "Vascular Mechanics and Pathology" and "The Aortic Valve."
Dr. Thubrikar was attracted to the School of Mines because of the opportunity presented by the newly created program, believing that the program has a unique opportunity to become one of the best in the nation. He is developing close collaborations with area physicians and surgeons, and believes that exceptional progress can be made in health care in areas like heart disease, orthopedic implants, and various medical devices through the School of Mines' biomedical engineering program.
