Article Body
South Dakota Tech invites middle and high school girls to participate in E-Week GIRLS (Girls Into Real Learning Succeed), an event designed to introduce students to careers in engineering and science.
During the school-day long workshop scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22, girls will hear inspiring and encouraging messages about pursuing engineering and science careers. They also will take part in engaging hands-on activities designed to excite them about math, science, and technology.
Participants will build marshmallow bridges, join a paleontology lab, explore global positioning system technology and geocaching, learn about computer components and robotics, take part in an ergonomics lab and discover the wonders of engineering and science through other activities.
“To achieve our economic and scientific goals as a state and nation, we need the contributions from every segment of our society, making events like this critical to our future,” Tech President Dr. Charles Ruch said. “We invite all girls to participate and explore the opportunities that exist in the science, math, engineering and technology fields.”
The registration fee is $5 per person and includes lunch and all materials. Find out more, and register, at the E-Week GIRLS website, www.hpcnet.org/SDTechEWeekGirls, or call (605) 394-2554. Seating is limited, and registration priority will be given on a first-come, first-served basis.
