An explosive summer camp, that is! The South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, located in Rapid City, S.D., has scheduled youth summer camps that allow students to learn more about geology and mining.
Youth Geology Field Camp, June 14-19, is offered to students entering grades 9-12. This camp will give students a better understanding of the earth and how it works. Students will learn about basic geology, minerals, rocks, fossils, earthquakes and much more. They will also stay in tents, eat outdoor cooking and take various field trips.
Explosives Camp, June 29-July 1, is offered to students entering grades 10-12. Students participating in this camp will learn about the science behind explosives and how engineers apply explosive forces to break rock to unearth precious minerals from the ground. They will be given an up close and personal view by trained explosives experts.
