School of Mines Celebrates Black History Month -- Released February 18, 2009

The Office of Multicultural Affairs at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology proudly presents "Joyce Jefferson: Phenomenal Women & Other S/Heroes." The event, in honor of Black History Month, will be held Monday, Feb. 23 at 7 p.m. in the Surbeck Center Ballroom.

Joyce Jefferson is a seasoned performer with hundreds of presentations to her credit. Her portrayals of phenomenal women, who throughout history overcame the most challenging circumstances to accomplish the extraordinary, are her signature presentation and have inspired and uplifted hundreds.

This performance, "Phenomenal Women & Other S/Heroes," embodies the insecurities and challenges faced by everyday women of every age and culture. Joyce combines a unique presentation of song, poetry and narration to paint a journey of the evolution of women.

The event is free and open to the public.
