The South Dakota School of Mines and Technology will host "Climbs and Expeditions of the '60s through the '80s", a slide slow and presentation from veteran climber Peter Lev, in the Electrical Engineering/Physics Building Room 252 at 6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 8.
With 47 years of experience, Lev is an American Mountain Guide Association Certified Alpine Guide and is currently a guide at Black Hills and Needles in South Dakota. He has seven Himalayan expeditions under his belt, including Dhaulagiri, Nanda Devi, Chulu, Nun, and Pik Lenin in Kyrgyzstan Pamirs. He claims the first ascent of the Lev Route on the Underhill Ridge of the Grand Teton, first ascent of the East Buttress of Mt. McKinley in Alaska and the first ascent of the Direct North Face of Mt. Robson in Canada. Other major rock climbs include NW Face of Half Dome, the Integral on El Capitan (second ascent) in Yosemite, and the second ascent of the East Face (Daley Route) of Pingora in the Wind Rivers.
The event is free and open to the public.
