    On June 23, it was my pleasure to join Governor Michael Rounds and leaders from across South Dakota at the Deep Underground Science and Engineering Laboratory (DUSEL) to celebrate the significant accomplishment of reaching the 4850 level.  The 4850 level was home to the neutrino detector installed by Dr. Ray Davis in 1965 and significant infrastructure for the Homestake Mine.

  • February 25, 2009Our spring Career Fair on February 10 was a success, and the 73 registered employers from 19 states reflect continued demand for graduates in science and engineering.   • October 6, 2008Traditions were alive on the School of Mines campus last week as we celebrated M-Week. The enjoyable and exciting week-long celebration closed with a parade and football game on Saturday where the Hardrockers defeated Mayville 46-7. We thank everyone involved in organizing and conducting this highly successful week, and in particular, M-Week student co-chairs Colter Burleson and Chris Peters.   • September 12, 2008The fall semester is well underway and the campus is bustling with activity. We welcome our new and returning students and look forward to a successful year ahead. Our official fall enrollment numbers will be announced by the Board of Regents on October 1st. While we cannot release enrollment numbers until that time, we are pleased with the status and caliber of our students and that the number of full-time, degree seeking students will not vary significantly from this past year.   • August 8, 2008I am pleased to report some exciting news about the value of a degree from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. The Forbes.com July 30 edition cited a study prepared by Payscale Inc., a Seattle-based research firm, identifying top Midwestern colleges and top U.S. engineering colleges by salary potential.   • July 18, 2008Over the past two weeks I have enjoyed the opportunity to meet and visit with many members of the campus community including faculty, staff, students, alumni, Foundation Board trustees, and community members.
