Earth Day Celebrations at the School of Mines -- Released April 8, 2008

Karen Hall, environmental engineer and a 1991 graduate of the School of Mines, will kick off Earth Day with a 40-minute "lunch and learn" program at 12 p.m., Tuesday, April 22 in the McKeel Room in the Surbeck Center. The public is invited to hear her presentation about the proposed oil refinery in eastern South Dakota.

The senior student design fair, displaying dozens of interesting design projects, will be shown in the Surbeck Ballroom and the public is welcome.

Earth Day will continue on Saturday, April 26. Several student groups are coordinating litter pick up at Rapid Creek and a large hill on Kansas City Street. Planned events include environmental booth displays, workshops on net metering and wind power, recycling information, films and children's activities.
