$15 Million of Funding for Campus Buildings Approved

House Bill 1085 authorizes a $74.5 million state bond issue to finance construction, renovation, and modernization of 11 higher education science facility and laboratory projects across the state. Within this funding, the School of Mines will receive $8 million for a Chemical and Biological Engineering/Chemistry Building and $7 million for a Paleontology Center. Another $42.7 million in federal and private dollars would be needed to complete all system projects.

 Representatives of South Dakota’s public universities and the Board of Regents joined Gov. Mike Rounds March 17, 2008, to commemorate the signing of House Bill 1085. On hand for the bill signing were (from left): Regent James Hansen; Regent Tony Venhuizen; Douglas Knowlton, president of Dakota State University; Regents Executive Director Tad Perry; Gov. Rounds; Regent Dean Krogman; Kay Schallenkamp, president of Black Hills State University; and Charles Ruch, president of South Dakota School of Mines & Technology.
