School of Mines to Host Cultural Expo -- Released March 21, 2008

"CULTURAL EXPO 2008 -- Celebrating Our Cultural and International Diversity" will be hosted by groups from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, National American University and the community on March 27 and 29, 2008. This annual multicultural festival will be held in the Surbeck Center Ballroom on the School of Mines campus. National American University and the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, along with a number of community groups, work jointly to encourage multicultural activities which promote friendship and cultural exchange between people of different countries and cultures.

Cultural groups from the community are encouraged to participate in this annual event, which is sponsored by international students, faculty and staff, AISES, the Student Association at the School of Mines, National American University, International Students Inc., the Ivanhoe International Center, South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, and Black Hills Corporation.

Thursday is geared toward area schools, with educational exercises for the students.  Hours are 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. on Thursday, March 27, 2008. The general public is invited to attend the Expo on Saturday, March 29, 2008 between the hours of 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.

Cultural displays from around the world and in the United States will be exhibited both days. There is no charge to visit the exhibits. There will be a nominal charge for sampling of native foods, which will be available from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday only. Cultural entertainment including dancing and singing will begin at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.

In addition to the Expo, the School of Mines Center of Excellence for Advanced Manufacturing and Production (CAMP) will hold the unveiling of this year's competition projects at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday.
