The Career Service Council at the School of Mines has given its Traditions of Excellence Award for February 2008 to Karmen Aga. Aga is a senior accountant, interim director of sponsored programs and a contracting officer III in the Sponsored Programs Office, and has been employed at School of Mines since February 2002. The Career Service Council gives the award to someone who has performed their assigned duties at a high level or above and beyond expectations, who has taken the initiative to promote the concept of successful job completion and has promoted a positive working relationship with students, faculty and staff.
Aga's nomination stated, "During this past year, Karmen has repeatedly had to step up to bat time after time, and has proven her capabilities. She not only had to train two brand new people by herself, she had to learn the duties of a new position and also take on the additional duties of an employee who retired after 17 years. Then after the director left, she was faced with the added responsibility of taking on those duties as well. She has been faced with the formidable challenge of keeping the OSP ship floating. And while that ship isn't steaming out of port yet, neither has it become barnacle infested nor pirate controlled."
