The following students were candidates for degrees from the School of Mines during commencement ceremonies held December 22 in Rapid City. Nearly 100 students were candidates for degrees during the university's 156th commencement. Mr. Gerard A. Baker, superintendent of Mount Rushmore National Memorial, delivered the commencement address and was awarded an honorary doctorate of public service. Micah Sheldon of Ray, N.D., gave the senior class message. The School of Mines also awarded four Distinguished Alumni awards to graduates who have made tremendous contributions to their professions and their communities.
