Two South Dakota School of Mines and Technology students have been named to the Gates Millennium Scholar Program. The students -- John Cross Dog, from Porcupine, who will major in chemical engineering and Sasha White, from Kyle, who will major in computer science -- will begin classes at the School of Mines this fall.
The Gates Millennium Scholars Program was created by the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation in recognition of the increasing diversity in American society and the compelling need to increase access to higher education to reflect the diverse society in which we live. The program provides academically talented African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American, and Hispanic American students with an opportunity to complete a college education.
Student selected for the award have an opportunity to attend an accredited college of university of their choice. They may complete an undergraduate degree program in any academic discipline.
